ALL KCC electricity comes from renewable sources!?!
KCC officers have confirmed that 2 claims in recent Conservative literature are incorrect.
The leaflet was circulating in Maidstone last weekend, but looks to be given countywide coverage. It claims that "ALL KCC electricity comes from renewable sources". In an email response to Trudy Dean, Leader of the Liberal Democrat Group at KCC, officers have confirmed that in fact less than half of KCC electricity is from renewable sources.
'Currently 46% KCC electricity use is from Renewable Energy Sources. The target for 2005/6 is 50%'. (Extract from KCC Officer email)
The leaflet also claims that all office paper at KCC is recycled. Once again, officers have confirmed that though this is an aim of the authority for next year, it has not yet been achieved, as all paper carrying the Council's official logo is not recycled.
'KCC have a target to purchase only 100% recycled copier/print paper by the end of 2005.'
'Headed paper is however not on recycled, and this needs to be tackled'. (Extracts from KCC Officer email).
Trudy has written to County Councillor Keith Ferrin, in whose name the leaflets have been written asking him to correct the record.
