....don't see much sign of it being spent for young people....
At the meeting of the County Council held on Thursday November the 3rd November; Martin Vye, Liberal Democrat member for Canterbury, questioned where the extra money put into the Youth Service budget this year has gone.
He said: " I welcomed the significant extra money for youth services…. put in very belatedly, and after pressure from the Government. But I don't see much sign of it being spent for young people in our area.
Look at what is lacking here.
1. There is no youth centre in Herne Bay.
2. There are no 'outreach' youth workers in Whitstable, where there is an urgent need to reach out and draw the minority of disaffected young people away from anti-social activity.
3. There is no transport to get young people in the villages into youth clubs, and they are left isolated and stranded".
Martin concluded: " Our youth workers and their managers are doing a brilliant job. But after years of under-investment by the Conservative administration in the Youth Service we urgently need to make sure that the extra money goes where it is needed. I am calling for an immediate review of the need for youth facilities in the Canterbury District, a review in which I want to be involved".
