The voice of local people will be lost
Kent Liberal Democrats have denounced proposals made to Government by seven south-eastern counties, including Kent, to abolish District Councils. The County Councils of Kent, East and West Sussex, Hampshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Surrey would each become a so-called 'Unitary Authority' taking control of all local council services in their areas.
Trudy Dean, Leader of Kent County Council Liberal Democrat Group, said: "Our view is that the County of Kent would be far too remote if it became a single Unitary Authority. The voice of local people will be lost. You have only to look at the state of our roads and pavements, the building of the Allington incinerator, and the sale of old people's homes, to see how KCC fails to deliver what local people say they want."
Trudy has asked KCC Chief Executive, Peter Gilroy, to explain how KCC was involved in the preparation of this study without it seeing the light of day at any Council or Committee meeting.
