A 30 mph interactive sign will be celebrated tomorrow - Wednesday 21st December - at 10.30 am, when Caroline Hobbs of the Jade Fund will present a cheque to Councillor Roger Manning, Chairman of KCC Highways and Transportation Board. The presentation will take place near the site of the interactive sign close to the junction of Sittingbourne Road/Tudor Avenue.
Road traffic dangers on the Sittingbourne Road in Maidstone were highlighted two years ago when teenager Scott Woolley, crossing the road on his way to school, was knocked down by a motorcycle travelling down the road. Since then Scott and his mother, Amanda Wilson, have campaigned energetically for improved safety on this dangerous section of road. Funding for an interactive sign was jointly pledged by the Jade Fund, and by local KCC Member Mrs Margaret Featherstone from her KCC delegated budget. This has enabled the installation of the interactive sign.
The sign is now installed and working. It has proved highly effective in moderating motorists' downhill speeds, and in improving road safety.
Local member Margaret Featherstone said: "I am delighted with the impact this sign has had, and I am immensely grateful to the Jade Fund for their generous support which has made installation of this sign possible. Many local residents have also expressed their appreciation and their relief at the reduction in speeding on the Sittingbourne Road.'
