The Waste Should Come From Boroughs Close To The Site
Local County Councillor Trudy Dean has forced Kent County Council to agree to 're-visit' plans which could have brought green kitchen and garden waste from all over Kent to Blaise Quarry, Offham.
At its Planning Applications Committee on 20 June, Trudy supported the approval of plans to compost the waste in enclosed buildings, provided lorries were barred from passing through local villages, including West Malling, Offham and Mereworth.
However, she strongly opposed giving permission for the waste to come potentially from anywhere in the county. She told Committee Members: "There is nothing 'green' about trucking waste from Ashford, Canterbury and beyond, using fuel and bringing congestion and pollution to everyone in between. The waste should come from Boroughs close to the site - Tonbridge & Malling, Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells, and local sites should be searched out for other areas."
Trudy also obtained agreement to seeking Government approval for restrictions on the number of lorry movements during peak hours, particularly on the single carriageway section of the A228 towards Kings Hill and Mereworth, and the A26 through Wateringbury.
