Fairer, Simpler and Greener Taxes - Green Tax Switch Campaign
"We are proposing the biggest changes in tax policies by any major party in the modern world."
That is what Dr Vince Cable, Liberal Democrat Shadow Chancellor told Lib Dems from across Kent, who had come to Maidstone Saturday 7 October, to hear Vince talk about the "Green Tax Switch" campaign, launched at Lib Dem Autumn Conference.
"Our new proposals are not for higher taxes but for Fairer, Simpler and Greener Taxes.
FAIRER because we are lifting 2 million people on the lowest wages out of taxation altogether, and abolishing perks on capital gains and pension payments enjoyed only by top earners.
SIMPLER because we propose to axe the Council Tax, cut the starter 10% of Income Tax, and align Income Tax and National Insurance Contributions rates.
GREENER because we propose to cut the greenhouse gas emissions which are burning up our planet by taxing aviation emissions, and new high emission cars.
The more we change to a greener way of life, the more we shall save ourselves...both in money and in the environment we enjoy."
Dr Cable pointed out that under Labour taxation on pollution had reduced, and that no proposals had yet come forward from the Conservative Party.
