The Liberal Democrats won a key by-election in Maidstone. After losing by just seven votes in the District Council election, held in May, Liberal Democrat candidate Rob Field has been elected Councillor for Park Wood by a majority of 217 votes.
The by-election was held after the resignation of James Cook, Labour Councillor. If the Conservatives had taken the seat, they would have gained overall control of Maidstone Borough Council.
