Sensible Eating And Fitness Regime
"'Eat five portions of fruit and veg a day and walk 10,000 pace'. That's my recommendation to combat obesity" stated Geoff Rowe (Lib Dem) Member for Malling Rural North East. "That's all I did about 18 months ago to achieve the appropriate weight for my height and frame. Its not just about going to the gym or taking up squash but about following a sensible eating and fitness regime " .
This was the advice that Geoff gave his fellow County Council Members, at the County Council meeting on Thursday, 14 December, during the discussion of the NHS Overview and Scrutiny Joint Select Committee Report on Tackling Obesity.
Geoff told the County Council that he had taken his lead from Kent Police who had encouraged this regime throughout the Kent Police Service, when he served as Kent Police Authority Lead Member for Health and Safety.
Geoff supported all the recommendations in the Tacking Obesity report which included considering giving obese patients pedometers, referral to leisure centres and to Health Walks. Geoff informed his fellow Members he had lost over 2 and a half stone over a 6 month period by following the five portions of fruit and veg and walk 10,000 paces a day regime.
