Trudy Dean, Leader of Lib Dem Group
Cllr Trudy Dean, Leader of the Liberal Democrat Group today proposed the County Council voted on its budget 4 hours ahead of schedule.
Trudy said: "There were over 30 people present, mostly library staff waiting to hear if KCC was going ahead with plans to cut the jobs of 77 people. They had to wait until 3pm before any votes were allowed. Many of them had to leave before then because KCC adopted a timetable which did not allow any votes until then - we had to sit through 4 hours of speeches, not one of which had any affect whatever on the budget, the Council Tax, or anything else"
The Council refused Trudy's suggestion saying they did not want the debate "highjacked" by Opposition proposals for changes. Trudy commented "Not a lot of room for democracy here then. Next time I think I'll bring my knitting!"
