The Leader of KCC Lib Dem Group, Trudy Dean, has asked KCC to consider debarring from office any Member who has not successfully undergone a Criminal Bureau Check.
Members of KCC's Governance and Audit Committee were told on Wednesday, 7 March that 16 of the 84 Members of the County Council have so far not completed the necessary forms despite being "persistently urged to do so" by officers.
Trudy, who had requested the information said: "County Councillors get access to a wide range of vulnerable people - young and old, because of the work we do. If any one of us is convicted of any offence as a result of that access, people could rightly ask why KCC put us in the position to do harm without the appropriate checks."
Members of the Committee agreed that a meeting of the three political Group Leaders should take place to discuss the position of Council Members who had not completed CRB checks.
Note: CRB checks are voluntary for County Councillors, but are due to become mandatory in the next few years.
The Committee also agreed Trudy's request that they urge the Government to require CRB checks for School Governors.
