453 street and footpath lights are not working in Canterbury, staggeringly more than 1 in 4 (118) of those lights reported have been out for over a month.
The figures requested from Kent Highways Services also show that there was 3 times the number of lights out of order in Canterbury than in Maidstone.
County Councillor Martin Vye, Canterbury City South West said: "Street lights are very important for road and pedestrian safety and in the prevention of crime. It is outrageous that so many lights are out and stay out for such a long time."
Martin has asked KCC to increase funding to street and footpath lighting in Canterbury as they did recently in Ashford where a similar number of 600 lights were recorded as 'out'.
Martin asks local people to let him know of street lights which are out to make sure they are reported and repaired straight away.
