At the County Council meeting on Thursday the 21st June, County Councillor George Koowaree, Member for Ashford East, asked the Cabinet Member for Environment Highways and Waste to confirm which authorities outside Kent are using the Allington Incinerator for domestic waste disposal, and what progress has been made in making arrangements for the disposal of domestic waste from East Kent?
Mr. Ferrin declined to answer ,claiming that "the issue as to whether other waste disposal authorities have contracts with Allington Waste Ltd is not a matter for KCC". Mr. Ferrin also stalled as far as progress regarding the arrangements for waste disposal for East Kent were concerned, stating "a range of options is being explored."
George said ""I was amazed by this unacceptable answer, especially during Green Transport Week We understand that waste lorries are traveling Kent's roads all the way to Allington from as far away as East Sussex and Surrey. But as a result of Mr. Ferrin's unhelpful reply we are still in the dark about the long term arrangements for the disposal of our own domestic waste from East Kent. "
