I hear no complaint from Councillor Carter about his chairmanship of yet another unelected group
Dear Sir ,
(Opinion - Sept. 2) Councillor Paul Carter, Leader of KCC I have no doubt, really does believe that he has good advice to give to the leaders of the Conservative Party. He blasts the present Government for instituting 'a staggering 150 Quangos since 1997' to bring the total of public bodies to 883. I totally agree that this is a staggering figure and ought to be brought under control . But to suggest, as he does, that this addiction to unelected Bodies is a unique fault of this Government , is to totally disregard the fact that if the 150 Quangos had not been instituted since 1997 that would still have left 733 which the Tory Government had left behind.
I hear no complaint from Councillor Carter about his chairmanship of yet another unelected group, The Kent Public Service Board, which is in addition to the Kent Chiefs and Leaders Group and the Kent Local Strategic Partnerships. If 'proliferation' of public bodies is his complaint then it might serve as a useful example to scrap the extra Group instituted by Kent which to most people seems to serve no useful purpose which is not already adequately dealt with elsewhere.
