Deaths and injuries on Maidstone roads have increased year on year
Local Lib Dem Cllr Ian Chittenden has called for urgent action to deal with the rapid increase of deaths on Maidstone Communities roads resulting in the highest number of deaths and injuries in Kent in 2007.
At KCC's Highways Advisory Board meeting (4th March 2007), Ian Chittenden, Lib Dem County Councillor for Maidstone North East, asked that an urgent investigation and review be undertaken by the Council in conjunction with the police and other agencies. In addition Partners to agree an action plan to deal with the problems of the roads in Maidstone, which is now the accident black spot of Kent.
Ian says "Deaths and injuries on Maidstone roads have increased year on year between 2005 and 2007. This cannot be allowed to continue. It is essential that an action is taken as a matter of urgency to reduce these figures. This plan must include the provision of tough collision remedial measures and road safety education for motorists and pedestrians".
