Pupils from four local schools will come together for a free one hour concert this Friday 9th July at 2pm at The Malling School. Children from West Malling, St James the Great East Malling and Lunsford Primary Schools will be joining The Malling School pupils to hear a concert delivered by the Eynsford Concert Band. Kent Music School will also be on hand to explain how children can learn how to play an instrument.
The concert is the idea of local County Councillor Trudy Dean who is funding the concert from her KCC Councillors grant fund. She said:
"I want all local children to have the opportunity to experience the excitement and sound of a live orchestra, and perhaps be inspired to take up an instrument themselves."
Trudy is also a Trustee of St James Community Centre in East Malling where a sound studio and radio station are planned giving opportunities for young people to get involved in music production.
The concert will start and finish promptly. The Malling School should be approached from Beech Road. Eynsford Concert Band are an experienced symphonic wind band based in Eynsford since 1972 that perform regularly locally and on foreign tours. A further schools concert is planned in Brussels in October this year. Under conductor John Hutchins, they draw players from across the south east.
In October 2009 they performed in West Malling Abbey's Pilsdon Chapel, the premiere of a "Heritage Suite" ( What Hope Saw) composed for them by Nigel Clarke, and subsequently recorded on CD.
