Catherine and Milton Keynes Councillor Vanessa McPake test drive low carbon options

This week Milton Keynes' Euro MP Catherine Bearder met with representatives from Milton Keynes Council to hear about their plans for low carbon living.

Meeting with Lib Dem Councillor Vanessa McPake and Brian Matthews, the Council's Transport Manager, Catherine heard how the Council is investing in transport infrastructure to ensure a reduction in carbon emissions.

Milton Keynes is receiving government funding for the Plugged in Places Scheme. The Council will install 250 electric vehicle charging points across central Milton Keynes over the next three years. Motorists will be able to charge the battery in their vehicles free of charge. The Council's target is to have 1,000 electric vehicles on the roads in Milton Keynes by 2014.

After test driving a new electric car on the streets of Milton Keynes, Catherine said, "It's great to see Milton Keynes is taking the lead on promoting low carbon living."

"Transport is one of the main sources of carbon emissions and we must do what we can to make the way we travel more environmentally friendly."

"Milton Keynes Council is doing a great job and I look forward to coming back and seeing how this project is progressing."
