Tim PraterCouncils have been told how they will benefit from the doubling of funding available for repairing potholes as announced in Wednesday's Budget. Transport Secretary Philip Hammond has written to all English local highway authorities to inform them of their share of £200m.

To promote greater transparency and accountability, all local highway authorities have agreed to publish information on their website by 30 September 2011 showing where this extra money has been spent.

Pothole repair funding for Kent is £6,545,256.

Lib Dem Folkestone West County Councillor Tim Prater commented:

"This additional support for Kent to really tackle the potholes and roads is a really useful boost for Kent. As a local authority, we should urgently be getting maintance work underway to invest this money in our roads.

"The Lib Dems have for years been calling for Kent to use really local, smaller contractors to fix roads - with contractors able to bid for work just in their town or area. Kent needs to urgently consider doing this with the new money, and benefit from a double whammy of getting better roads from contractors who care AND seeing the money go to local firms to help support local businesses."
