Kent County Council (KCC) Conservatives have agreed to pay their bills more quickly after Lib Dems at County Hall pointed out their record over the last three months was getting worse.
In April 2,846 bills remained unpaid after the target 20 days allowed for payment. By August this figure had grown to 2,935: so potentially almost 100 business more were awaiting payment than five months ago.
On September 13th at County Hall, Lib Dem Leader Trudy Dean said:
"If KCC are serious about supporting Kent businesses then the best thing KCC can do is pay its bills to them on time...and they aren't, and they are getting worse."
Four days later during the Cabinet meeting John Simmonds, Finance Cabinet Member, said that in response they had examined the County Council's record and had decided to smarten up the process to ensure faster payment in future.
