Kent Lib Dems call for Officer Pay-Off Review

11.38.19am BST (GMT +0100) Wed 14th Jul 2010

The Liberal Democrats on Kent County Council have tabled a motion for next weeks full Council meeting calling for an urgent review into large severance payments from the Council. The motion comes after reports of another huge pay-off for a Council Officer hit the national and local press.

The motion, proposed by Lib Dems Malcolm Robertson and Trudy Dean, says:

"Given the information in the public domain regarding a significant severance payment to a senior officer, and the widespread public concern and anger generated by it, this Council requests the Group Managing Director carry out an urgent review of interview, appointment, contract and severance payment procedures, and report back to Members with proposals to strengthen those procedures so as to minimise the risk of such large payments being made in the future."

The motion will be discussed at the Kent County Council Full Council Meeting on Thursday 22nd July.
