County Councillor Ian Chittenden for Maidstone North East

(Maidstone North East ward)

Ian Chittenden

I have lived in Maidstone with my wife and family for over 30 years. I am a Maidstone Borough Councillor and was elected to the County Councillor in 2007. I work hard in my local community as a Governor of Valley Invicta Park School Federation, a Trustee of Howard de Walden Centre, and a member of the local PACT Group (Police and Communities together).

I have a record for both organising and supporting campaigns in North East Ward over many years, including recent campaigns against resident parking charges, threatened cuts to the CCTV budget, back garden development/urban cramming, and the threats to our local countryside from development.

Pot holes, road repairs & road safety

Since my election as a County Councillor, working with the Borough Councillors and residents, I have raised hundreds of issues with KCC Highways relating to potholes, poor pavements, blocked drains and faulty street lights.

Success! I am are delighted, after years of pressure, many footways on Vinters Park have now been resurfaced, and Penenden Heath roundabout plus a small section of Sandling Lane will be refurbished soon - the date for the work has yet to be confirmed, but will probably be in this Autumn. Keeping the pressure on KCC Highways is a priority, and you can help me by letting me know about the potholes, flooded gullies and faulty street lights in your road.

The upshot of my campaign to improve road safety in Maidstone, was a report which recognized that Kent injuries and deaths had reduced by 40% over ten years, but in Maidstone the reduction was only 15%. Special action has now been taken but I will continue to challenge KCC on this issue until our roads are safe roads.

For years taxpayers have had to pay for damage to roads caused by developers - after months of campaigning, KCC admitted they had the power to hold developers responsible for Damage and are now finally doing so.

I am delighted that Maidstone Housing Trust are extending arrangements for Finch Hall, Ringlestone as a local Community facility for another year. I am working with the Ringlestone Community Association Committee and KCC on the provision of longer term solutions - a Childrens Centre and community facilities.
