Erasmus must be protected from Brexit

September 20, 2016 8:32 PM

Martin VyeMartin Vye, Liberal Democrat education spokesman at Kent County Council, has warmly welcomed the overwheming support of Liberal Democrat conference members to press the Government to maintain the Erasmus programme.

Martin commented as follows:

"One of the great ideals of the European Union is that young people should be able to study in any university in any country in Europe.

"The EU Erasmus grants programme makes that possible. Many thousands of British young people have benefitted from this valuable opportunity. It would be a tragedy if Brexit stops that in its tracks.

"We Lib Dems in Kent are glad that the Liberal Democrat Party, backed by a 10,000 name petition, is calling on the Government to make continuation of Erasmus a priority in the forthcoming negotiations."
