Antony Hook"We need the collective wisdom and ideas of all our members and supporters, to assemble the ideas that will change Kent for the better."

That's the message from County Councillor Antony Hook, Economic Development Spokesmasn for Kent Liberal Democrats. The party in Kent is launching a policy working group on Economic Developement and all party supporters are invited to apply to join it.

"Liberal Democrats are the Official Opposition in Kent and we are serious about taking power here in 2021. Kent is the largest County Council in the country. We have a budget of £2.2bn. Kent's economic output is £36bn per year. The County Council spends about 8 times per head what the EU does. How the County Council is run has a massive impact on the lives of everyone who lives here."

"Our economy in Kent is diverse. About 80% of UK exports go through Kent ports. Farming is very important, we have three universities, there is a growing tourist sector, manufacturing, science, services, and the creative sector to name a few."

"Getting the economy right makes it easy to get every other policy area right. I believe that we can do better than how the Conservatives are doing things. I belive that Kent Liberal Democrats can offer better leadership. We can guide Kent's economic development better, finding ways to grow the number of good jobs while improving quality of life."

"I have some ideas about how we do that. But we have 2,600 party members in Kent. I want to harness the ideas of our members, some of whom have considerable skills and expertise."

"That is why I am launching Kent Liberal Democrats' Policy Working Group on Economic Development. I am expecting the Group to have about a dozen core members and to produce a policy paper within 2-3 months that will give us a solid platform of ideas to push while we are in Opposition and to implement when we take power."

If you are interested in taking part in the Policy Working Group please complete the application here.

The group is likely to have it's first meeting in early March. Please apply as soon as possible if you are interested in participating.
