Liberal Democrats on Kent County Council

"We have a responsibility to our children to ensure the world they inherit is safe and clean"

March 29, 2021 7:46 PM

Liberal Democrat County Council Candidate for Deal and Walmer, Penelope James, backs the six priorities of Kent Liberal Democrats.

"Caring for our community, our environment and our residents are key priorities for Kent Liberal Democrats. They have never been more important than now as we emerge from the pandemic. Penelope James

"Protecting the natural environment is of huge concern. We have a responsibility to our children to ensure the world they inherit is safe and clean.

"As County Councillor I will focus on protecting our precious green spaces and encouraging biodiversity. I will ensure new housing and business developments are properly thought out in terms of services and transport; that any new housing is sustainable as well as energy efficient and that the environmental impact of any development is rigorously evaluated.

"I will also be looking at air quality and ways to improve it in Deal, Walmer and Dover, which are heavily impacted by Cross-Channel traffic.

"Another area of concern is the level of traffic and speeding. We urgently need to make our streets safer for all. I will actively promote 20mph as the default speed limit in areas outside schools and in residential and shopping districts. Better local transport feeds into this and I shall be urging for a fresh focus on improving existing bus routes and developing new ones."
